Voices Carry: Women in Film

Saturday, Sept 14 – Thursday, Nov 21, 2019
Phyllis Wattis Theater, Floor 1

Taking a cue from ‘Til Tuesday’s eighties song Voices Carry, which evokes the silencing of voices and neutralization of emotional states, this series focuses on contemporary films directed by women whose presence behind the camera is enriching the cinematic field with fresh perspectives, cultural interrogations, and genre twists, while widening the lens of on-screen experiences and representation. International in scope, the series presents films by emerging directors, festival favorites, and under-recognized gems featuring nonfiction stories, experimental takes, and intimate narrative works. Voices do carry.
